MasterCard has taken measures to block U.S. citizens from using the MasterCard credit to make deposits on poker sites and at online casinos.
The measures are more than likely do to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) that was signed into law in 2006 by President George W. Bush. The law gave American banks and credit card companies until this July to comply with its guidelines that disallow them to take part in the funding of online gambling accounts.
MasterCard has tried to take this measure in the past, but saavy programmers of offshore gambling sites were able to bypass MasterCard’s attempts. It appears that MasterCard’s latest attempt has succeeded, as poker sites like Doylesroom, Bodog, Absolute Poker, Full Tilt, and UltimateBet have all removed the MasterCard logo as a way to make a deposit at their sites.
Players in the U.S. are still able to fund their accounts by using electronic check methods, bank wire, and some Visa credit cards.
